My family has been looking for a highly effective charity focused on children, and I was blown away by the Bountiful Children Foundation. 100% of the donations are used to purchase locally-sourced high nutrient food for kids, thanks to an organization entirely staffed with volunteers, and to the use of LDS-owned buildings. They're miraculously able to feed a child for a whole year for a mere $100. $8 is enough to feed a malnourished child for an entire month.
I had a great conversation with the president of the Foundation a few weeks ago, and my family has chosen to back them this year.
Melissa and I will add 5x to whatever amount our own kids give.
